Yapp Studios, Inc.
was founded in 1982 by Charles H. Yapp. The company was entirely engaged in
the business of Illustrative Commercial Photography and was located in
downtown Chicago, Illinois.
Today we are located in southern Ohio,
outside of Cincinnati, making vintage Model A & B speed parts and publishing
good things to enhance the hobby.

Charlie Yapp
Yapp, Inc. serviced the design, advertising and corporate
direct industry for over 29 years producing award winning images used in
everything from billboards to brochures and magazine ads. Charlie has worked
with hundreds of corporations from Budweiser to Coleman, Quaker
Oats, Borden, Hyatt Hotels, United Airlines, Restaurants & Institutions
Magazine and many more specializing in
food, people and exotic locations.
Professional Photographer

Mr. Yapp semi-retired
from the hectic business of commercial photography, closed up his studio and moved the
Cincinnati, Ohio area in 2003 to be closer to his family and enjoy life a
little bit more. Photography
remains very important to his spirit.
Yapp’s hobby since his high school days
(besides photography) has been the 1928
to 1931 Model A Ford, of which he has owned and rebuilt five (so far) plus
one speedster (another is in progress). The speedster "thing" has become his
passion and led to creation of a special interest club for the vintage
Ford hop-up crowd.

Here's Charlie in 1964 headed off to the Rocky Mountains.
Secrets Of Speed Society -
Publishing
Charlie created and named the new organization
Secrets Of Speed Society
and has been the Executive Director and Editor ever since. Today, the
S.O.S.S. is part of Yapp Studios, Inc.. The Secrets Of Speed Society grew
from a mire 32 guys in 1991 to thousands in just a few short years. The
magazine's articles are created 100% by volunteer contributions of its
membership. Some of nicest most generous and knowledgeable people you will ever find!
Today, the group, which
is probably the largest and oldest known vintage Ford speed group in
existence, produces a glossy color 52 page quarterly journal.

The design and photography within its
pages reflex Mr. Yapp’s ideals of design, quality and workmanship.
Secrets Magazine has consistently won awards of
excellence from the very beginning, is packed with stories, articles, photos
and drawings of and about the early days of hop-up, speedsters, racing, the
people and equipment that made it so exciting. It keeps tabs on
projects around the world and advertisers must offer primarily vintage parts or
services.
Scalded Dog Speed Parts
- Manufacturing, Distribution & Sales
In 1997 Mr. Yapp purchased an original 1930 Riley-Valve-In-Head OHV conversion for the Model A Ford. . . Long story short . . . This caused
the formation of his next venture, Scalded Dog
Speed Parts. He’d soon gotten himself into manufacturing and has ended up with over 25 products plus the complete reproduction of the
Riley Two Port, with over 100 parts, many made especially for the Riley. .
. An achievement of huge proportions. The Riley can suck over 100 hp out of the
40 HP Model A Ford. . . ."It accelerates like a motorcycle" (sm).
The Riley head is semi- retired from sales in order to focus on
the Roof 101 Cyclone reproduction. Riley parts are still in our portfolio.
The Riley will be brought back on line in a few years.
Starting in
October 2008, Yapp has begun a new OHV cylinder head for the Model A and B
guys . . . This is being jointly designed by Jim Roof grandson of Robert M.
Roof. It's styled after the 1929 Roof Cyclone OHV and will be called
the
"Roof 101 Four Port OHV".
More info is on this site.

There are also two cast iron high compression heads, the
Model A and B Ford
Lion Speed Head for Model A Fords is proving itself as the most
powerful, inch for inch, pound for pound high compression heads ever
produced, developing a whopping 115 HP. This head was entirely designed by Mr. Yapp inside and out.
The Model T
Lizard Speed Head is as distinctive and
powerful as any of Yapp's products. Each of the cylinder heads feature spark
plugs on the driver's side. The Lizard is also Mr. Yapp's design. The Lizard
is "retired' waiting for a new day to dawn.
Wait until you see the next new Model "A" and "B" speed
product! The Roof 101 Cyclone

A Short Bio
Charlie brings a strong work ethic, honesty and a keen
desire to provide his customers with original, high quality products and
services possible.
Mr. Yapp grew up in the Midwest, mainly in St Louis,
Missouri
and Des Moines,
Iowa, is a four year Navy veteran from the Vietnam era
(1966-70),
a valedictorian graduate of Brooks Institute, Santa Barbara, CA earning a BA in
Illustrative Advertising in 1974. Before starting his business in '82 he
worked for several diverse design/photography concerns in St. Louis and
Chicago.
. .
He has been referred to as a "one armed paper hanger" . . ..
Often described as "a leader, creative idea-man, a
no-holds-get-it-done-guy, renaissance-man and
consummate entrepreneur" (five successful companies so far). . . Not to mention husband, father and
grandfather. When not working on Secrets Magazine, designing new
"doggie" parts, managing the production and sale of those
parts you might
find him with family, hiking or working on the small forested farm
they call home 30 miles east of Cincinnati adjacent to East Fork State
Park. Charlie and Donna have found a secret retreat in Costa Rica and just
might be found there basking in the sun. Charlie is re-finding his roots in photographic arts and is expanding
some
energies into this direction. . . . And of course he's working on his
"super secret" speedster project (not rolling yet).
LECTURES
When not too busy Charlie often gives lectures on Ford
